Day 5 - Nov 8 - Cave City, Kentucky, through Tennessee to Little Rock Arkansas

We left Cave City this morning at 8:30 am under blue skies and we stopped driving for the day at 5 pm.  We drove into Tennessee and went through Nashville and Memphis.  The last road trip three years ago we stayed two days in each city to see most of the important tourist sites. I googled the cities again and it was pretty well the same attractions, so no point in going in again.  So we decided to keep going and visit Little Rock, Arkansas this time.  There is the Clinton Presidential Center and it sounds like a pretty good birding spot that is nearby.  So that is for tomorrow.  We also hope to try a BBQ place for some ribs, but we have to check around for that.  It is time to try some southern BBQ.

This afternoon we crossed the Mighty Mississippi which is always an important moment.  The river is so awe inspiring.  Just after leaving Memphis on Highway 40 and entering Arkansas one drives over the Mississippi on a three lane bridge.  It was pretty impressive.  It is such a big river at this point.  When we visited Memphis last time.  We walked right down to the river bank to touch the Mississippi.

The highway traffic today was almost all trucks and then some RVs and some cars.  Someday I will count the number of tractor trailers we see in one day.  There were Wide Loads and Oversize Loads on the road and one has to watch out for everyone.  There should an interstate for cars only.  Many times one is blocked in by 3, 4 or 5 tractor trailer trucks in a row trying to pass each other and they barely can do it.  So behind this mess, traffic builds up.

Norm had his first view of cotton in the fields.  We crossed into Arkansas and we saw huge fields with all this white fluff and dark green.  It looked like snow at first.  Nope!  It is cotton.  There were a lot of fields with cotton ready to harvest.  We could see some fields that just been harvested.  I hope we will be able to see the cotton up close.

The only photo we took today is a selfie of us at a Rest Stop off the highway with a tree in fall colours.  The temperature was around 16 degrees. We just Facetimed with Cassi and Matt and Lu and we should be in Fort Worth by Saturday.
