Day 11 - Nov 14- Birding with the Fort Worth Audubon - Arlington - Dunlop Park & Legacy Park
This is going to be short as last night for some reason my Microsoft did an update (8 parts) on my laptop and I went to bed and it was still updating which is never a good thing. I had to start my computer three times and it is very slow and then shuts down. I will have to get the techie I found to take a look at it when I get home. I am not sure if it will let me post or not. day started early for me.
I got up at 6 am to get ready to go birding. It was zero and dark. I first took Darla for a walk for her constitutional. Cassi did not need me today as she had a check-up for Lu at 8 am before her classes started today and so I will just pick Lu up at the end of the day.
The Fort Worth Audubon had a birding outing in Arlington about 20 minutes away in rush hour at the Village Creek Drying Bed which is a great area to bird. That is where I had the Bewick's Wren last year. And Jim was leading this outing again. We first birded Dunlop Park starting at 7:30 am. There were some different birds for me but not for the Texas birders. Tufted Titmouse, Northern Mockingbird and Great-tailed Grackle. There were also European Starlings, Blue Jays and a lone Cedar Waxwing. There was a frost on the ground so Arlington had a frost last night which was not the case in Fort Worth.
The Drying Beds Area was closed to the public though. So we drove down the road two lights and made a left into the Legacy Park which is about 400 acres in size along the Trinity River. Here"e and another lady joined us. Here we parked right at the end and walked 3 and a half miles of trails. We had Orange-crowned Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, and lots of Carolina Wrens and Chickadees. We had a beautiful Red-shouldered Hawk sitting on a branch high up in the tree calling and then he flew off. The day is sunny so the birds looked great.
You may be wondering, where are her photos. I did not take my big lense on this trip, I took the Nikon with the broken zoom, it still works but one can't get anything up too close as it won't focus. Well I went to take my first photo this morning and the message was "Battery Exhausted\" and my spare batter was back at the car about a mile away by that point. But I know Lynn was getting some lovely photos!! Right now my computer is frustrating me with going dim, freezing and then saying it can't save right now. So I may be typing here, all for nought!
So far the day has been great. I was back home at 1:30 pm and the computer keeps kicking me out. This may be the last post I get to do. Tomorrow we are going to the Fort Worth Wildlife and Nature Center just past Lake Worth. It is one of my favourite places to bird with lots of different habitats.
We have Lu this evening as Cassi has an extra tutuorial class to go to so it will be a fun evening. Lu got some books for his birthday and he loves to hear the stories. Sometimes when I get a name wrong, he corrects me, which is mind boggling.
