Day 8 - Nov 11 - San Antonio Botanical Gardens with kids

Norm and I slept great at Cassi's and we were up by 8 or so this morning.  The day was gray and it looked like it would rain but it did not until late in the day.

We had a relaxing morning and we went out around 11 am to visit the Botanical Gardens which are a five minute drive from Cassi's.  We visited the children's garden and little house and usually Lu and I look and find lots of lizards but with the cool temperature - 8 degrees, the lizards were probably hiding somewhere.  This is a lovely spot when it is really hot as there is plenty of shade and a nice covered picnic area which is where we usually had our snack.

Today Lu was in a running mood so after the children's garden area we went to the lake area and looked at the Giant Koi ponds.  The fish are huge and they are smart.  Lu had a great time and so did we trying to find the king of the pond.  There is a huge blue/gray Koi that looks to be the biggest.  The fattest we could find was a while and orange one that had quite a girth.

Lu was running around with flying feet on the grass and the walks.  We went over to the Rose Garden where I took most of the photos today and where roses were blooming.  Then we went to the cactus garden and the wide lawn area.  Here there was more running and even a race between Matt, Cassi and Lu.  I won't say who won....

It was time to go home for lunch.  Lu must have run a couple of miles and he had a great time with us.  Norm and I left the kids and we went on to pick up something for supper and get a couple of things that we needed at Natural Grocers, Tom Thumb and the Dollar Store.  I looked for a weekend New York Times but had no luck so settled for a Dallas Standard which was interesting.  We finally made it home in the late afternoon and Lu was still sleeping.

This was a good time to do a week's worth of laundry so between taking Darla for a good walk and the laundry business, the afternoon was over.  Lu finally woke up and he was in good humour too.  Lu picked a movie to watch and we all watched it.  Lu also played with his new Transformers.

We had Gluten-free pizza for supper along with a pretty good Southwest Salad.  So another lovely day with the kids.  Right now it is raining and it is supposed to rain all night.  It is not torrential rain which is kind of different from when I was here in other visits.
