Day 12 - Nov 15 Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge

Today was another touring day.   It was sunny and 15 degrees by 10 am and by 2 pm is was 19.5 degrees.   A gorgeous day and when we went by the golf course, it was open and people were playing golf.

After I dropped off Lu at school this morning I went back home.  Norm and I packed up a picnic lunch and we drove to one of my favourite places here, Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge.  I came here first on a outing and then have come several times with birders or on my own.  It is a huge place and they have a herd of Buffalo/Bison also.  We did not see them today however.  I have seen them by the fence a couple of times and we looked but did not see.

First stop was the Visitor Center.  When we went in people greeted me, one birder that I birded with last year and was in the birding group yesterday and two people I met last year Jim and I forgotten the lady's name unfortunately)   I introduced Norm to the group.  We chatted for a while about birds and equipment and stuff.   The threesome was doing a project feeder watch at the visitor center every second Thursday.  There were birds there, Carolina Wren, Carolina Chickadees, Downy Woodpecker, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Tufted Titmouse, Dark-eyed Juncos and Cedar Waxwings.  There are no Hummingbirds around.

Norm and I did a couple of trails and at the Caprock Overlook we took our daily selfie and some photos  We saw several butterflies flying about today but it was so hard to get a photo of one.  I don't have my good camera and this one that I do have, most of the time it won't focus.  We had our picnic lunch down by the marsh boardwalk.  I sat down on the deck, there are usually some seats there.  There were American Wigeon there and hundreds of American Coots.  We stopped at several trails which I have gone down, but the park was quiet and so were the birds.  We did see a deer on a field also.  One Great Blue Heron was spotted but it flew off before I could get anything in focus.  We did see one Yellow-rumped Warbler and several Eastern Phoebes.  There was the odd Cedar Waxwing around also.  But the weather was glorious, perfect for being on a trail.  We walked the Greer Island Causeway and did not even spot a small alligator.  So just a quiet day for birds.  But we enjoyed it very much.

We picked Lu up later in the afternoon and then have been having fun with him.  He is watching his TV show right now and I wanted to see if was going to have to struggle to get the computer to work and it is balky but it is working for now.  So I am typing furiously before it cuts me out.
